When this lady of many gifts marks her 75th birthday Monday, there will he untold affectionate reminiscences of the numerous movements in Which she partici- pated with distinction. For more than 40 years an active worker in Jewish Welfare Federation ranks, a dedicated participant in Allied Jewish Cam- paigns, Mrs. Allen shared with her husband the many responsi- bilities which gained for both leadership in Detroit Jewry. Born in Chicago, July 31, 1897, Mrs. Allen, the former Phyllis Zuckerman, came to Detroit with her family at age 11, was graduat- MRS. PHYLLIS ALLEN ed from Liggett School and re- ceived a degree in piano and voice from Detroit Institute cf Musical Art, She was confirmed at Temple Beth El by the late Dr. Leo M Franklin, sang in the temple choir and had been active in temple acts dies for many years. Mrs. Allen has many accomplish- ments to her credit. She was one of the organizers of the Michigan Association for Emotionally Dis- turbed Children, a cause that has been absorbed by the United Foun- dation. She is an honorary board mem- ber of the Tuberculosis and Health Society. In early Allied Jewish Cam- - paigns, Mrs. Allen helped inspire workers with her musical gifts as pianist in group singing in the era of Dr. John Slawson's direction of drives here. A participant in six missions to • Israel. Mrs. Allen's part in United Jewish Appeal services has been continuous through the years. She is a Fellow of Brandeis Uni- versity and with her husband she established a dormitory at the uni- versity in Waltham. Mass. While in Florida during her winter vaca- tions, Mrs. Allen is a member of the Palm Beach committee for Brandeis University. Among her many notable com- munity activities was her en- couragement as a board member of the Jewish Community Center to the Mothers' Clubs. She re- calls with enthusiasm the many Mothers' Clubs functions she at- tended, the services she rendered them together with the late Mary Cap/an who directed the clubs. She served as chairman of the Mothers' ('tubs committee and while she did not know any Yiddish she enjoyed sharing with the ladies their many interests, assisting them in forming study groups, language instruction, bridge classes and many other activities. As part of this role. Mrs. Allen enjoyed being with the Mothers' Clubs members at their camp in Chelsea. Mich. Serving as a member of the capi- tal needs committee of the Jewish Welfare Federation, Mrs.' Allen continues her interests in com- munal affairs. She serves on the advisory committee of the Sinai Hospital Women's Guild and helped organize and direct its gift shop. She also serves on the women's advisory board of United Commu- nity Services. Sirs. Allen has one son, Jay Warren Allen, two grandchildren and a brother. Elmer Zuckerman of Springfield, N.J. Rabbi Irwin Groner and Cantor Jacob Barkin officiated, The new Mrs. Rosenberg is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Brodsky of Nadine Ave., Hunting- ton Woods. Mr. Rosenberg is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Rosen- berg of Harvard Ave., Southfield. The bride wore an organza gown with a fitted bodice and full skirt and train. The bodice, with a high- neck collar and short sleeves, was appliqued with Venise lace in a rose motif and pale pink petal inserts A pink sash and bow also were trimmed in Venise lace roses with pink petals. Her headpiece was of Venise lace from which a full- length veil and blusher were at- tached. She carried her own bride's prayer book under a cas- cading bouquet of white phalae- nopsis orchids and pink Stephano- tis with ivy trailing. Helene Cheryl Brodsky, the bride's sister, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sherry and Carolyn Rosenberg, the bride- groom's sisters: and Ellyce Ruben. Ira L. Snyder u as best man. Ushers were Jeffrey and Marc Brodsky, the bride's brothers: and Stark Miller of Philadelphia. The bride's grandparents.
