Teachers Learning Technical Side
of Education in Bar-Han Courses

RAMAT-GAN - Eight hundred
high school and junior high school
teachers are taking special sum-
mer holiday •n-service training
courses at Bar-Ilan University.
One of the aims is to familiarize
veteran teachers with new devel-
opments in research arid education I
in their particular fields. Most of
those attending are not from re-
ligious schools.
Because of the great technolog- :
'cal development, a special course
is being given on techno-communi• '
cation in education.

The first graduates of Bar-Ilan
University's Institute of Local
Government recently received
their certificates. The 18 students.
senior municipal officials from all
parts of Israel, completed the two-
year program-the only one of its
kind in the country.
The aim of the course is to raise
the level of education among Israeli

Jewish intellectuals in Israel
and overseas held a week-long
seminar on "Jewish Ethics- in
Theory and Practice. - organized
by the Institute on Judaism and
Contemporary Thought.
The institute was founded two
years ago on the initiative of a
number of Bar-Ilan University
professors headed by Prof. Harold
Fisch. They hope to develop it
into a permanent independent re-
search institute in Israel devoted
to the intellectual and philosophi-
cal prcbtems of Judaism in our
time.
Overseas participants in the
seminar included Prof. Emil
Fackenheim of the University of
Toronto: and Prof. Marvin Fox of
Ohio State University, among
others.

Esther Blaustein Reminisces About Momma
as Landlord in Her Charming Book

Esther Blaustein made good use
experiences, from childhood
through college and as a good ob-
server of neighborhood activities,
in the writing of the charming
story "When Momma Was the
Landlord." published by Harper
and Row.
Truly. it is a family chronicle.
and as an autobiographical tale it
will remind many of similar ex-
periences in the days when the
mother conducted some of the
family business deals, when the
children were affected by the
neighbors' indiosyncracies. • when

made good use of the relationship- ,
of all members of her family as
well as the tenants who provided
the adventurous factors for a per-
sonal document that at Ulm' , read:
like a novel.
Father and mother -- Momma
and Daddy - are not the on!y
heroes in this stor.. There is (tie

Mrs. Blaustein has written a
tale that will delight the reader
For many it will be nostalgic -
leading them back to their own
life as youths in a home where
