Israel Blasts 'One-Sided' UN
Measure on Prisoners of War

UNITED NATIONS (JTA) —
Israeli sources warned Wednesday
that Israel "will not consider any
resolution that does not take into
account the Israeli point of view"
on the issue of Middle East pris-
oners.
Israel will ignore all "one-sided
resolutions" as "mere paper" un-
less they "contain a call to all
parties to release all prisoners,"
the sources said.
The sources commented in the
wake of a Security Council meet-
ing Tuesday night that Israel,
which had asked to attend, with-
drew from them when the council
decided to consider first only the
Lebanese-Syrian complaint against
Israel — that it "abducted" one
Lebanese and five Syrian officers
June 22.
At the time of Israeli raids on
terrorist bases in Lebanon fol-
lowing a renewed series of ter-
rorist attacks on Israelis, the
council on June 26, voted 13-0,
with the United States and Pan-
ama abstaining, to condemn Is-
rael's raids and captures.

This, he said, was a - blatant act
of sabotage against the law of the
United Nations and the expressed
will of the council," and was "an-
alogous to conditions usually im-
posed by abductors and hijackers
for the release of their hostages."
Dr. George J. Tomeh, Syria's
envoy, charged Israel with black-
mail and belligerency, and threat-
ened sanctions against that "rob-
ber baron" state.
The Soviet deputy ambassador,
Dr. Viktor L. Issraelyan, charged
that Israel's actions and its "os-
tentatious absence" f r o m the
chamber proved defiance of the
council.
Israel, the Soviet envoy asserted,
was responsible for the "explo-

said that was "not acceptable to

sive" situation in the area.
In a speech at Tuesday night's
session, Israel Ambassador Yosef
Tekoah contended that "Israel's
efforts to achieve the release and
repatriation of prisoners of war
have in the past met with an un-
yielding refusal on the part of

civilized opinion."
Rejecting "one-sided resolu-
tions" as ineffective. Tekoah de-
"Such resolutions have
clared:
always remained powerless to . '
Israel's defense of its
weaken
legitimate positions."
