CJFWF: Basic to any evaluation of the future prospects of the
Jewish community in the United States is a Jewish population study li
which would bring out all the factors affecting the future growth and
characteristics of the Jewish population. Such a study is now being
completed by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds.
This is the first time in the history of American Jewry that such
a comprehensive study has been undertaken. Its results will be re-
I
leased by the CJFWF in a series of reports at the end of this year I
and in 1973. They will give a clear picture on the demographic struc-
ture of the Jewish population, the striking changes in the composi-
tion of American Jewry, the size of Jewish families, and the propor-
tionate decrease of first generation American-born Jews as compared
to the proportion of the second and third generation increases.
But apart from the demographic information, Jewish leadership
will be particularly interested in what the CJFWF study reveals re-
garding Jewish education, patterns of Jewish activity, practice and
