Much criticism is being
heard nowadays against men
in the medical profession.
'Ihe main accusation is that
physicians submit exorbit-
ant bills to patients. There
is also the charge that some
doctors needlessly rush into
surgery patients who may
not need an operation.
Eleazar Lipsky, the well-
known attorney, and author
of six novels, has written a
seventh novel entitled "Mal-

with the question, to what

Gene Saks essayed the part
of the reformed rabbi on

"0 Jerusalem," the semi-
documentary film to be pro,
duced by the Frenchman
Claude Berri (of "Mazel-
toff"), is based on the book
by two journalists, the Amer-
ican UPI man Larry Collins
and Paris-Match correspond-
s n t Dominique Lappierre
who also wrote the brilliant
reportage of "Is Paris Burn-
ing" which became a miser-
able motion picture partly
due to its star-studded cast.
The new epic will be shot in
realistic fashion in Israel,
with Costa-Gavras. Oscar
winner for "Z," directing.
The work deals with the war
of independence fought in
the Holy City of Jerusalem
in 19-18.
"0 Jerusalem" will be

raeli crews and technicians..

In spite of all the lofty ideals
involved in marriage and the
air of sanctity that envelops
the wedding ceremony, the
act of marriage is basically
a legal transaction which in-
volves specific legal perform-
ances. Since legal acts and
legal performances are pro-
hibited on the Sabbath, mar-
riage acts would be no ex-
ception to this general rule,
Bar Mitzvas, on the other
hand, require no perform-
ance whatsoever on the part
of humans in the legal sense.
Bar Mitzva is a status of
maturity which automatical-
ly comes upon a boy with the
arrival of his 13th birthday.
Whatever takes place at a
public Bar Mitzva festivity
is simply a celebration and
thanksgiving of this temporal
achievement in life. Thus,
there is no legal act, trans-
action or performance what-
soever at a Bar Mitzva cele-
bration. Thus, Bar Mitzva
celebrations may take place
on the Sabbath while mar-
riages may not be performed
on the Sabbath.

HOLLYWOOD — Alan
Arkin, the mad Russian from
"The Russians are Coming,"
currently is on the screen
as love-crazed Barney Cash-
man, in the filmization of
Neil Simon's Broadway play,
"Last of the Red Hot Lov-
ers," a comedy with tragic
undertones accentuating
loneliness and the lack of
communication in our urban
society. Arkin appears as a
middle-class burgeois who
wants an extra-marital ro-
mance before old age may
overcome his sexual desires.
