Rehovot Hall Named
for Late Prof. Schmidt

REHOVOT—The lecture hall of
the Perlman Institute of Chemical
Sciences, now being built at the
Weizmann Institute of Science, is
to bear the name of the late Prof.
Gerhard M. J. Schmidt, former
dean of the institute's chemistry
faculty, head of its chemistry de-
partment and Rebecca and Israel
Sieff professor of Organic Chemis-
try.
Prof. Mendal Cohen, head of the
institute's structural chemistry de-
partment, made the annonunce-
ment at the close of the first Ger-
hard M. J. Schmidt Memorial Lec-
ture, given by Prof. David Gins-
burg of the Haifa Technion—Israel
Institute of Technology.
