Israeli Opinion of Nixon
Rises; Military Aid Cited

NEW YORK — The man in the
street in Israel has a higher opin-
ion of President Nixon today than
ever before. This is revealed in a
new puhlic opinion survey, just
conducted there by Public Opinion
Research of Israel Ltd. and re-
ported here by the American
Jewish Committee.
The survey shows that 70 per
cent of those questioned were satis-
fied with President Nixon's attitude
toward Israel, with an additional
23 per cent stating that they were
"more or less" satisfied with him,
In summer 1970, only 23 per
cent of Israelis questioned
ex-
pressed approval of the President.
In explaining the figures, PORI
suggests that the sympathetic view
of Israelis toward Mr. Nixon re-
flects the fact that American and
Israeli views are more in harmony
today than in the past and that
U.S. military shipments are again
flowing to Israel after long and

LONDON—According to a story
in the Middle East International,
there are nearly 10,000 Arab stu-
dents in the United States, and
most of them are non-activists.
However, there are some, and
these students in 1970 caused a
split in the 8,000-member nation-
wide Organization of Arab Students
over the issue of Israel. The more
conservative Arabs want to limit
hostility to Israel alone.
Activist Palestinian students pre-
fer anonymity as long as their
families are living under Israeli
rule, the article said, adding that
they fear Israeli reprisals and the
jeopardizing of their own chances
of returning home.
Many Arab students who come
to the U.S. follow relatives who
have come before. Many are found
in Detroit, Chicago, Houston and
Los Angeles. In Brooklyn, there are
20,000 Arabs living within a few
blocks of each other.

The new group plans to carry on
both campus and community based
activities to promote the Zionist
Revisionist program: democratiza-
tion of the Jewish community,
raising of Jewish national con-
sciousness through education and
free discussion, aliya and an Is-
rael based on social justice and
traditional Jewish values, an Is-
rael that will include the liberated
territories.
