Mutual Benefactors

Important as our common
course may be I happen to
think that America (as other
lands and civilizations in the
past) has given its Jewry
many valuable ideals and
ways hitherto iriknown to
them; and Jew y, in turn.
possesses valuable ideals and
sways of which America is
ignorant or heedless. When-
ever we demonstrate the lat-
ter (and not
erely write
about it as I
nl
doing),
thereby showing how Juda-
ism differs fro American-
ism in the thing that count
toward a richer ife, we add
perhaps to ourdiscomfort-
but also to our stature, -
