primary grades of the weekend school. The median is $20. On the
elementary !etch, in the three-day school, they range from $15 to
$165. with a median of $85. On the two-day high school level they
range $15 to $200, with a median of $60. Non-members pay appreciably
higher tuition fees than members, their median differential being
about 66 per cent.

In communal and independent schools, the median is $125 on the
three - day elementary level and $120 on the three-day high school level
It is $100 on the two-day high school level. Tuition fees are usually'
reduced for each additional child from the same family when two or
more attend the school simultaneously. Reform schools are far more
likely than Conservative or Orthodox schools to maintain a policy of
free tuitiun for children of members.

showing that the Jewish community' must consider a plan that would
result in the equalization of support for Jewish education.

The AAJE is particularly concerned with the higher tuition fee,
le,ied by larger schools — schools with 300 or more pupils. Do larger
schools engage more qualified teachers at higher salaries" Are the
higher fees warranted by reason of quality of education offered by the
larger schools" Do the larger schools proside additional activities and
better facilities which involve higher maintenance expenditures7 . .
A
very large proportion of the larger schools e‘ade the answer to these
questions

The findings of the AAJE study strongly indicate that the larger
school is far more likely to admit only children of members. Should
this actually be the case, it could mean that 'children of low socio-
economic status may be &Trisect of a Jewish education in a growing
number of communities.
