Joan Kripke, 19, of Fairway Rd.,
Birmingham. called the McGovern
for President headquarters to see
if she could volunteer her services
for the recent Michigan Primary. •
Office workers suggested that
she run as a write-in candidate
for precinct delegate since, to
their knowledge, there was no
candidate from Precinct 8.
Miss Kripke learned later that
there would be competition: a man
who was automatically returned to
the delegateship at every election.
But he was in Florida at the time,
and Miss Kripke actively cam-1
paigned for the job.
She won the election by a land-
slide vote of 19-4.
