The Best of Everything

By Danny Raskin

OUR MOST RECENT ex-
perience at an authentic Jap-
anese restaurant was quite
interesting . . . It's called
Enbu, opened just a couple
of weeks. on Mound Rd., one
block south of 10 Mile . . .
owned by Ted Kajiyan and
Bill Ishimoto . .
seating
about 100 people
. plus a
regular dining room, also
has the private rooms that
make for Japanese enchant-
ment . . . Naturally out for
the full treatment, we chose
one of these room in which
to feast . . . Stepping off a
huge rock stair, we took off
our shoes and entered a
charming room replete with
Japanese culture and fin•
esse . . The welled seat
which enabled our long legs
to rest comfortably was most
welcome instead of being
folded underneath in some-
time cramped style . . . The
pretty Japanese waitresses
who came in, knelt and took
our order, were extremely
polite . . First we were
given a wet wash cloth to
cleanse our hands . . . then
they brought Suimano soup
(noodles) . .. Sukiyaki (beef
and vegetables in special
sauce), Lobster Tail Teri-
yaki and the Tempura (deep
fried shrimp and vegetables)
that Ted wanted us to try
. . . The Japanese delicacies
at Enbu are very tasty and
the decor authentically pleas-
ant . . . The room we were
in, for example, had sculp-
tured carvings, wall draper-
ies and dolls, all imported
from Japan . . . No, we
didn't have any Sashimi
(raw fish) . .. one day, per-
haps . . . Ted and Bill are
a couple of nice guys and
the Japanese staff of wait-
resses compliment the good
food at Enbu.

for Sam at 1..ofy's in Plym -

and had supposedly given
permanent thumbs down on
ever coming hack to Detroit

night at Sam's Michigan
Palace . . This time its
preceded by sonic stipula-
tions . . a suite and three

single rooms, an auto at his
disposal, a 13 -piece band, a

HERE HE COMES .. the

tire show, from 11 a.m. to
5 p.m., two spotlights with
operators, no service during
first 15 minutes of his act
and no service the last 10
minutes . , . with a mini-
mum of service at any time
during his performance . . .
"Uncle Millie" comes here
with comic Stan Fisher and
singer Lola Falana. protege
of Sammy Davis Jr. .
About that six-hour re-
hearsal—it's a known fact
in show biz that the Berle
work load in a single year
could kill off most perform-
ers, but Milton thrives on
it . . Money isn't important
to him—work is . . . Besides
acting in movies, on televi-
sion, radio and night club
performances, he also di-
rects a vast empire that em-
braces movies, TV and rec-
ords . . . In his spare time,
he writes songs (more than
400) and publishes them with
his own publishing com-
pany . . Remember "Sam,
You Made the Pants Too
Long?" . . Berle has prob-
ably done more benefits than
THE LITTLE CAFE on any other star in show busi-
Gratiot, south of Six Mile. ness . . . His philanthropies
near the airport, is an east are many and he gives to
side landmark . . It's a them generously of his time
quaint spot with delightful and money . . He re-

Laker, writes of Bobby Lau- Berle than when the Televi-

I honestly feel the need to this well-earned tribute,
say that he is a genius. His "The industry honors the
sound is so soothing and yet man who made the indus-
stronge and definite-so full,
enchanting and inspiring."
ACCORDING TO ALAN
IN 1799, a full course din- DRAKE, who ends this Sat-
ner in any New York res- urday night at the Michigan
Palace with John Gary, there
is a guy who may be the
stingiest in all New York

was imperative for his wife
to get some sea air . . so
he fanned her two weeks
with a herring.

PLENTY OF PLACES will
be open Mother's Day this
year . . . with specials de-
signed just for her . . . so
take mom out this Sunday
. . . show her the good time
she deserves.
