to Map Crust of Israel's Earth

the earth in Israel and Sinai, down
to a depth of 100 kilometers (62
miles) is being mapped for the
first time in a five-year seismo-
logical research project initiated
by Prof. Ari Ren - Nlenahern and his
colleagues in the Weizmann Insti-
tute's geophysical laboratory.

as a result, help in some measure
to prove or disprove certain
theories about the drifting of con-
tinents_ Prof. Ben-MenaherMs re-
sults also will help pinpoint earth-
quake prone zones in Israel.
The researchers are carrying out
underwater blasts (in the Gulf of
Eilat, the Dead Sea and the Medi-
terranean), as well as blasts in
bore hub's on land (in the Arava
and Sinai)_
