Hundreds of Thousands March to Densand 'Let ',Iv People Go'ITHE

NEW YORK (JTA) — Hundreds
Of thousands marched Sunday in
some 100 cities across the country
to express their support for Soviet
Jewry and urge President Nixon to
intercede in behalf of Soviet Jewry
when he meets with the Russian
leaders May 22.

The largest demonstrations out-
side New York were in. Detroit
where more than 2,000 people and
a 200-car motorcade participated
in a rally, and in Chicago where
some 2,000 attended a rally in the
Civic Opera House.

In Dallas, an overflow crowd
massed at the McFarlin arena in
an event cosponsored by the city's
churches and synagogues.
Organizers of the marches and
meetings termed the events a
major success and an indication
that the American Jewish com-
munity was actively involved and
committed to aid their brethren
in the USSR.

The National Conference on
Soviet Jewry, which sponsored
the National Solidarity Day for
Soviet Jewry, and the National
Jewish Community Relations
Advisory Council, which coordi-
nated local activities and mobi-
lized forces and resources for
the event on behalf of the NCSJ,

was termed by Richard Maass,
NCSJ chairman, as the most con-
certed and cohesive undertaking
by American Jewry in the cause
of Soviet Jewry.
Throughout the country petitions
were circulated to collect 1,000.000
signatures to be given to Nixon
prior to his departure for Moscow.

Jerry Goodman, executive direc-
tor of the National Conference on

"determination to continue the
struggle for human rights."
Boris Kochubievsky, who in
