Four Jewish Prisoners Isolated in Slordovian Prison LONDON (.JTA) — Four Jewish prisoners at Potma in the Mordo- vian Republic — Boris Penson, Hillel Shur, Arkady Shpilberg and Lassal Kaminsky- — were illegally removed from that camp April 4 and confined to the prison in Sar- ansk, also in the Mordovian Re- public, apparently to isolate them, according to Jewish sources in the Soviet Union. The four were sen- tenced to terms in a labor camp, not a prison. The sources also reported that 309 Soviet Jews have signed an ap- peal to Jewish communities and organizations for help in securing visas to Israel. Many of them have lost their jobs because of this and are under surveillance; others have been interrogated and warned but have signed anyway. The signers are from Moscow, Vilna, Riga, Tatin, Kharkov. Kiev. Leningrad, Kishinev, Minsk, Sverdlovsk and Rostov. Five young Jewish scientists in Russia, all officers in the Red Army Reserve, have been order- ed to register for active service although they are not likely to be called to duty in the imme- diate future, Jewish sources in the Soviet Union reported. All five have applied for exit visas to go to- Israel, and the ef- fect of their orders will be to reduce their chances of leaving the USSR, the sources said. The five are Victor Yakhout, Gavriel Shapiro, Michael Kalatch- nik, Dan Rozhinski, and Vladimir Lerner. Rozhinski is'36 years old. The others are under 30. Yakhout, who was fired from his teaching post after applying for a visa, was summoned before his local em- ployment committee last week and ordered to find " f 1" work or face a prison sentence for para- sitism. Like several other unem- ployed Jewish scientists, Yakhout had been supporting himself by tutoring students in physics. 24—Friday, April 28, 1972 .
