are fine musicians, but are unable
to bring their instruments with
them), Music Study Club has em-
barked on a program of providing
pianos to areas where they will
benefit the most people and where
they are most needed.
One piano has gone to the Crip-
pled Children's Hospital in Tel Aviv
and another to the Rubin Academy
in Haifa_ A third has been pur-
chased for Kibutz Snir m the Golan
Heights. The latter gift was the
result of a request to the Jewish
News from Mordekhai Tel-Tsur,
who formerly headed the Hebrew
department of the Jewish Center.

A celebration of life, as it is lived
in Israel's largest city, will be the
theme of a musical evening to be
presented by Music Study Club of
Detroit 8 p.m. Tuesday at the
Southfield Civic Center auditorium.

"A Night in Tel Aviv" will fea-
ture: Shaul Ben-Meier, flutist with
the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
accompanied by Rachel Weaver;
the Young Dancers Guild of the
Jewish Center, directed by Harriet
Berg; and the NUR.' Day School
Festival Singers. directed by Mrs.
Herbert EA-in.
These groups will present some
of the various types of musical
events found on any evening in Tel
Aviv — ranging from classical to
folk and Hasidic.
Mrs. Eskin, chairman of the
Music for Israel committee of the
Music Study Club. said the com-
mittee is presenting the program
to make the community aware of
the club's contributions to the
musical life of Israel.

Tel-Tsur wrote of the need for a
piano among the young people liv-
ing- in the Golan area. The Jewish
News passed on the request to Mrs.
Eskin, and after considerable cor-
respondence between Detroit and
Israel, the Music Study Club sent
- I check for the full cost of a piano
to Kibutz Snir.

The club president, Mrs. Joseph
Markel, recently received a note
from pianist I.eslie Wolff of
Kibutz Snir: "I can't tell you
how important it is for us at
Kibutz Snir that we will have a
piano. Much of the musical and
cultural potential of the members
of this kibutz, of the kibutz as a
whole, has been limited because
of the lack of this important in-
strument. Believe me, it is highly
appreciated!"

The only women's group in the
country with a program of assist-
ance to Israel's musical needs,
the Music Study Club provides
scholarships for deserving stu•
dents and has sent thousands of
dollars in instruments to schools,
institutions, the Israel Army and
kibutzim.

Because of the prohibitive cost
of pianos for Israelis and the in.
