Holocaust Lessons Vital to Assurance

TEL AVIV (JTA) The lessons
of the Holocaust must be applied
to assure Israel's future secur.i.ly ..
That theme was sounded by both
Premier Golda Meir and Defense
M,ni, , er Moshe Dayan speaking at
widely separated memorial assem-
blies Wednesday commemorating
the Six Million. Mrs. Meir spoke
at a ghetto fighters' kibutz in West-
ern Galilee.
Gen. Dayan addressed an audi-
ence estimated at 10,000 at Yad
Mordekhai, a kibutz north of the
Gaza Strip named in memory of
Mordekhai Annilevitz. commander
of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of
1943

Meir said. "We must
learn the lesson of the Holocaust.
Before the eyes of the whole
world, it was possible to murder
and burn 6,000,000 people_ From
that bitter, unprecedented ex-
perience we must know that we
cannot rely on anyone. We can
rely only on ourselves," she said.

Mrs.

Gen. Dayan said. "The Holocaust
memories must be translated into
everyday terms here at Yad Mor-
dekai, which was a buffer pro-
tecting Tel Aviv in 1948 and a
neighbor of the Gaza Strip ever
since_ We must never let the
strio serve as a base for Egyptian
tanks or for hostile operations
against Israel. We must not per
mit a young generation (of Arabs)
to grow up in the strip as in a
hothouse on dreams of destroying
Israel," he said. "In our own gen-
eration of revival, we cannot ig-
nore the problem presented by
the 350,000 Arabs of th? strip-
100.000 of them refugees. We must
strive for the best possible human
relations and neightorly ties. -
Gen. Dayan said.

The anniversary was marked
by a memorial service in Temple
Emanu-EL arranged by the War-
saw Ghetto Resistance Organiza-
tion and attended by 4,000 persons
while others tried unsuccessfully
to join the capacity crowd.
In messages. President Nixon
noted the "heroic and tragic event"
of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, and
Israeli Premier Golda Meir de-
clared: "Time could never obliter-
ate the immensity of the tragedy.
and the world should never be al-
lowed to forget. -
Demonstrators from Dr. M. T.
Mehdi's Federated Organizations of
America-Arab Relations carried
signs outside deploring the Deir
Yassin incident in 1948, charging
that "Zionism is neo-Nazism" and
demanding "Justice for the Arabs."
