Sam Cohen, Longtime M eat Wholesaler, Age 69 Max Schoenfeld, 91;

1459 E. Kirby, died Wednesday at
age 69. Mr. Cohen had been in
the wholesale meat business for 40
years.
Mr. Cohen, who started business
in the Eastern Mar!cet, co-owned
the Cohen and Levenburg meat
business in Delray for 30 years.
At his own expense, Mr. Cohen
ran a soup kitchen during the De-
pression.
He was a member of the Detroit

Mr. Cohen, 23398 Riverside,
Southfield, was born in Poland and
lived in the Detroit area for 48
years. He belonged to Cong. Beth
Achim and Morgenthau Lodge of
Bnai Brith.
Surviving are his wife, Sari; a
daughter, Mrs. Leon (Sheila) Solo-
mon; four sons, Allen, Marvin,
Steven Balkm and Jeffery Balkin
of Washington, D.C.; a brother,
Abe; and four grandchildren.

Gary Berg, Victim in Water Mishap

Gary Michael Berg, 20, a sopho-
more at Oakland Community Col-
lege Orchard Ridge Campus, died
with a friend in a scuba diving
accident, on Pine Lake over the
weekend. The bodies of him and
his friend, David Wells, 16, were
found by divers.
Mr. Berg, son of Harold and

Doris Berg, 29268 Franklin Hills
Dr., Southfield, was a 1970 grad-
uate of Andover High School in
Bloomfield Hills. He was born in
Detroit.

Surviving besides his parents
are a brother, David Layne; and
his grandfather, Francis McGraw.

Mr. Schoenfeld, 22343 LeRhone,
Southfield. was born in Germany
and lived in Detroit for 55 years.
The owner of Schoenfeld and
Schoenfeld clothing store on East
Jefferson for 40 years, he retired
in 1940. From 1940 until 1954 , he
was a manufacturers representa-
tive in the men's clothing field.
He was a member of the Men's
Apparel Club, the Zionist Organi-
zation of America and Temple
Beth El for 55 years.
He leaves a daughter. Mrs.
Otto (Phyllis) Wertheimer; and
two grandchildren.

News' Broadcaster, 82

MIAMI BEACH—Gabriel Heat-
ter, the radio broadcaster whose
phrase "Ah—there's good news
tonight!" comforted American
radio audiences during World
War II. died here March 31. He
was 82.
Heatter began his career as a
radio commentator in 1932 with
station WMCA in New York, but
quickly -moved over to Station
WOR—Mutual Broadcasting Sys-
tem where he stayed until he re -
tired.
