10—Friday, March 31, 1972 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS from the Rabbis of Greater Detroit "Mah-nish-tah-noh ..." As the familiar cadences of the Passover night warm us with the shared tradition of generations, let us rededicate ourselves to another tradition 4,000 years old. A promise, bound upon us by our forefathers, to protect one another at all times, to care for one another in need. Over the centuries this promise has kept us whole in body and spirit to reach this night of rejoicing. Yet.far from our festive Passover tables other Jews sit in other rooms, bereft of even the basic necessities of life. They contemplate a future bearable only because of the hope that their fellow Jews will heed the promise and deliver them — from fear,' from oppression, from hunger and sickness — perhaps to Israel where a Jew can lift up his head in freedom and lie down in peace. Closer still, our promise will succor the . needy, comfort and provide for the aged, and improve the quality of life for Jews in our own community. In the name of these, our troubled brothers; in the name of a tradition too precious to forsake, we call upon you to honor the spirit of the Holiday. KEEP THE PROMISE through increased and generous support of the 1972 Allied Jewish Campaign-Israel Emergency Fund. 61
