'Passport to Israel'

Won by Leo Sklar

Manfred Werner, chairman of
the 1972 "Passport to Israel" drive,
announces that the winner of this
year's drawing for two round-trip

tickets to Israel is Leo Sklar of
Hampton Ct. Southfield.
The annual drawing was held
March 18 under the auspices of
American Habonim Association and
the Chay Commission of the Labor
Zionist Alliance. Funds from the
sale of "Pass,lorts" are used to
promote local Habonim youth ac-
tivities, as well as to support Habo-
nim's summer camp Tavor in
Three Rivers, Mich.

Celebrate Israel's Anniversary

The Jewish Center's celebra-
-bon of Israel's anniversary of in-
dependance will take place April
15-23. The communiy is invited.
A variety of Israeli posters for
decorating and gifts will be on
sale throughout the week.
On opening night,"The Man Be-
hind the Legend," an Israeli drama
by Yaacov Orland focusing on the
life of Theodor Herzl will be pre-
sented, starring Martin Bard.
On April 16, the Center Sym-
phony Orchestra will feature violin-
ist Mischa Mischakoff in Bruch's
Concerto. The Folk Symphony by
Menachem Avidom of Israel will
be performed. That evening at 8
the Israeli comedy film, "The
Flying Matchmaker," will be shown
in the DeRoy Theater.

The award-winning Israeli film
"Siege" will be shown 8 p.m. April
19 in Aaron DeRoy Theater. Both
films are in English.
A ceremony to commemorate
Israel's 24th anniversary of state-
hood will begin ?A 8 p.m, April
22. The noted quartet, Voices
Four-Arbaah Kolot, will follow,
along with Israeli folk dancing
and refreshments.
An art auction featuring well-
known Israeli artists will take place
2:30 p.m. April 23 in Shiffman
Hall. The doors will open for
viewing at 1 p.m.
The annual Youth Zimriya, fea-
turing Hebrew choral groups of the
Detroit area, directed by Eliav
Naharin, also will take place 3 p.m.
April 23 in Aaron DeRoy Theater.

Tickets for "The Man Behind
The Legend," the Voices Four and
the two films are sale on sale at
the Jewish Center. All other acti-
vities, including the art auction, are
free to the public. For information,

60 of the museum's collection of
histoic costumes, in a show, "His-
tory a la Mode" at the Detroit His-
ttorical Museum. Among the great
models will be Mrs. Leonard Si-
mons. Proceeds from the show will
be turned over to the Detroit His-
torical Commission. Tickets may

tion of the famed Rodgers and
Hammerstein musical "CAROU-
SEL," starring John Raitt, comes
to the Masonic Auditorium for one
performance, 8:20 p.m., April 8.
John Raitt and "Carousel" are
almost synonymous, - -27 years hav-
ing shaped the man and the show
into an entity. The crush that
stormed the Majestic Theater for
the premiere of "Carousel" on the
night of April 19, 1945, was the
