Phyllis Diller's premiere as a
concert pianist in the Detroit area
is one of the surprise- attractions
Festival Manager Sandor Kallai,
with a different star headlining the
program each Sunday.
Arthur Fiedler. the distinguished
conductor of the Boston pops,
will open the Sunday season on
July 2 as guest conductor of the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
The Detroit Symphony, whose
summer home is the Meadow
Brook Festival, will play eight of
the Sunday concerts.
On openingnight, Fiedler will
conduct the brilliant Detroit-born
pianist Joann Freeman in the
Grieg Piano Concerto, and a
variety of light classics in the
Boston Pops tradition.
Returning to Meadow Brook
Festival this year on July 16, is
one of its favorite conductors,
Mitch Miller.
