June, July, August 15 DAY TOURS El AI Hopes to Expand to Chicago and Other Areas Reuven Goldstein, director of the El Al Israel Airlines office in the Detroit area, announced this week that there is the possibility of extending the airline's services to Chicago in a matter of several weeks—. Goldstein said that El Al is ar- ranging for tourists to Israel to be accommodated in rooms in pri- vate home at the rate of $4 and $5 a day. He also stated that El Al has plans to fly to South America—to Argentina in September of this year. By 1974, he said, El Al will fly to Southeast Asia and to Aus- tralia and around the world by 1980. In a statement issued in Chicago this week, Mordehai Ben-Ari., president of El Al, said that El Al hoped to extend its service to U.S. cities other than New York, and that would start with Chicago to serve the Midwest market. The Israeli government and the 22 DAY I U.S. are presently - negotiating ad- ditional rights, and Ben Ari is cautiously optimistic about the out- come. TOURS Last year the carrier hauled 13,000 Chicago '-area residents through its New York gateway. Ben Ari said he hoped El Al would be able to better establish a foothold in the Midwestern area and "become more widely known." In order to promote the carrier in the area, Ben Ari said El Al and the Israel Tourist Board plan to conduct a joint promotion. The airline's fleet has grown in three years from three to 10 707s, plus two 747s, reflecting a capacity increase of 180 per cent. Annual revenues by the end of March dur- ing the line's current fiscal year ending March 31 are expected to total $125,000,000, 35 per cent over last year's $93,000,000.
