Food Costs in Israel Rise

paid au average of 16 per cent
more for their food in 1971 than
in the previous year, according to
government statistics.
Although the over-all price rise
was quite steep, increases were
not uniform for all commodities.
Poultry, . beef, fish, butter, tea,
vegetables and fruits rose more
than the average.
Flour, rice, sugar, margarine,
honey ,apd marmalades increased
by ordr 42- per cent over the pre-
vious year. Staple commodities such
as bread,--- - oil, eggs, chocolate And
sweets increased by onlyll percent.
