Davar- Against Ending
Privileges for Olim

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — The He-
brew Daily Davar, press organ for
the United Labor Party in Israel,
editorially deplored the pressures
of those advocating a reduction in
the special privileges now enjoyed
by new immigrants.
The gist of "Davar's" statement
follows:—From all sides we hear
cries that the immigrants must
come because we need them, be-
cause they are more essential for,
us than we are for them. And still
there are those who insist on mak-
ing a financial calculation of the
cost of their absorption, who ask
whether the new oleh is sufficient-
ly productive in his first years to
compensate us for the cost he en-
tails as an immigrant.
And when that calculation- seems
to work against us, we argue that
the policy of absorption should be
changed and that the immigrants'-
privileges should be curtailed. How
absurd!
