According to Adm. Miller, that policy was adopted 10 years: ago after a similar furor arose - on the campus over a student in- vitation to the late George Lin- coln Rockwell, leader of the American Nazi Party, to speak. "Rockwell spoke and laid the biggest egg," he said. Ann Arbor Mayor Joins Protest for Soviet Jewry The Washtenaw County Jewish Community Council, in a report to The Jewish News, said some 250 Jews and Gentiles participated in its recent demonstration at a performance of the Osipov Bala- laika Orchestra in Ann Arbor. Mayor Robert J. Harris and three Christian clergymen were among the marchers, who were protesting the persecution of Soviet Jewry.. Mayor Harris, who is Jewish, marched, despite the cold, for an hour before the performance. "An estimated 1,000,000 Jews want to leave Russia," he told reporters. "This is the only pressure that can be brought to bear in attempts to release Soviet Jews." The clergymen included the Rev. Joseph Kunti, of St. Mary's Student Chapel; the Rev. Calvin Malefyte of University Reformed Church; and the Rev. Raymond Saxe of Grace Bible Church. Rev. Saxe, who said his father was Jewish, commented that this was the first time he had ever demonstrated but that he took his stand because of a "personal af- finity for the Jewish people" and because he is anti-Communist. Also protesting were Rabbis Bruce Warshal of Temple Beth Emeth and Allan Kensky of Beth Israel. Congregation. The demonstration was sponsor- ed by the Soviet Jewry Committee of the Jewish Community Council CHEVR1LET HARRY Call Us For Counseling On Your Tire Needs * and Sensitive Prices The Dunlop CW 44 Snow Tire JOE STAMELL'S DYNAMIC TIRE SALE 3826 N.
