Akira Hebrew Day School will
benefit from a single performance
of "Akiva Goes Nips," starring
Mitch Miller conducting the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra, 8 p.m.
:.larch 5, at Ford Auditorium.
Miller's :musical exploits are
many and varied. For the last four
years he has been conducting ma-
jor symphonies all over America
and Canada.
At age 6. Miller of Rochester,
N.Y.. was playing the Bach two-
part Inventions on a piano his
parents had bought for S15. In high
school, where musical instruments
were provided. Miller found him-
self with an oboe after other stu-
dents had grabbed the more popu-
lar instruments. 12-year-old Mitch
accepted the challenge. Soon he
was receiving scholarship lessons
at Eastman School of Music and
playing in the high school orches-
tra. At 15, he was chosen to play
second oboe in the Eastman School
Symphony.
