NCJW „Endorses Busing; Professor Tells
of Growing, Latent Anti-Sernitism in U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In re-
- affirming its full support of school
integration, the National Council
of Jewish Women called upon Con-
gress to reject any anti-busing
measure.
In a statement issued at the
Council's Joint Program Institute
meeting this week- at the Statler
Hilton Hotel here, NCJW Presi-
dent Mrs. Earl Marvin pointed
out "that at this point.' in our
history it is essential ttha• no roa21-
blocks be errected to interfere•
with the process of integration."
"We urge Congress to reject any
legislative attempts including anti-
busing measures, which will ham-
per communities in their efforts to
achieve school integration," she
said.

Javits. and Sam Ervin and Prof.
Marvin F. Verbit addressed the
300 delegates who gathered for the
four-day institute.
At the closing session; Prof.
Verbit, speaking of latent anti-
Semitism in this country, pointed
out that conditions conducive to
anti-Semitism and characteristic
of today's society include rapid
social mobility, economic and po-
litical frustration, the placement
of Jews in visible gatekeeping
positions and the desire of the
economic
upper class to deflect
attention . from its role in social
conflict.
He suggested that _Jews focus :1 r
their attention on policies anad . ac-

tions to "safeguard Jewish matt- .
tutions and the rights of individual Scheduled orAugus t -
Jews," with the end result that
the "kind of action that will best ''?,r4--,
protect Jewish interests also will
strengthen the position of other
American minorities in the long
run."
