BROTHERMOOD IN U.S.: Long before "ecumenicity" became
popular hi American life, the National Conference of Christians and
Jews came Into existence. With it came also the Brotherhood Week
which is observed every year in thousands of American communities.
This year Brotherhood Week starts on Feb. 20.
The National Conference of Christians and Jews—a civic oran-
ization whiCh believes that brotherhood can be achieved without weaken-
ing the loyalties or modifying the distinctive beliefs of any religion—
was founded; in 1928. Its purpose was to promote amity, understand-
ing and cooperation among Protestants, Catholics and Jews, and to
eliminate intergroup prejudices.

a gangster is a far cry from a
rabbi, but the pay is better.

Remember Shukairy, the loud-
mouthed Arab leader? He is now,
according to the press, writing his
memoirs. On the eve of the Six-
Day War, he invited world press
correspondents to have dinner
with him at Tel Aviv a few days
later. He is worried how to explain
his failure to keep the appoint-
ment.

Six years later the Brotherhood Week was proclaimed. Since then
it has been endorsed by every President of the United States, by
church leaders•of all faiths, by labor union leaders and by prominent
Christian and Jewish personalities. It answers the question "Am I
My Brother's Keeper" through a variety of programs which reach all
elements of the American population.
It is estimated that through churches alone the Brotherhood Week's
programs reach about 70,000,000 Americans over the age of 12. Its Jerusalem Survives
