He certainly has gathered many
chestnuts for this book. Some of
the stories are corny, many are
as old the author. But there are
some new ones—and a few that
are quite good.
Primarily, his new book gains
value because Harry Golden knows
how to tell a story well, even if it
is as old as the hills.
The skill of Harry Golden also
lies in his being able to quote —
and he certainly draws upon many
notables to credit them with some
of his yarns.
Some of the tales emerge as
short stories in the Golden book.
In the main, they are short tales
and, even if old, will be enjoyed
by many.
But — who says that even the
old jokes are known by many?
Therefore a book of Jewish jokes
is certain to acquire a large read-
ing public.

HAIFA—Amos Meier has an un-
usual bird—a German-speaking
parrot, that is.
Recently, Meier reported to po-
lice that his African parrot was
missing. The police traced the bird
to the home of one of Meier's
neighbors.
The neighbor insisted the bird
wasn't stolen, but Meier offered a
sure-proof test, let the parrot speak
for himself.
And after several hours of wait-
ing, the bird burst out in song,
singing a German nursery rhyme.
