Quotes "THE PRICE DROPPER" Marilyn Betman, chairman of the chapter, said that the JDL will hold simultaneously a Freedom for Soviet Jewry concert, includ- ing Israeli dancing and Jewish folk songs. Two days earlier, the MSU chapter of the JDL will demon- strate against the orchestra's ap- pearance on campus. The MSU chapter threatened to hold a demonstration on Jan. 13 at the office of Ken Beachler, scheduling director of the concert series, to demand that the Feb. 4 performance be canceled. In a letter to Beachler, Richard ()mark, chairman of the IVSU chapter of JDL, wrote: "We must request that the above sche- duled performance be canceled because of the many restrictions placed on Russian intellectuals, the repression of Soviet Jews as well as the very severe hardships placed on Soviet Jews who wish to immigrate to Israel." However, according to the chap- ter, the demonstration on the 13th was postponed when Beachler promised JDL students an oppor- tunity to meet with the Lecture- Concert Series Advisory Council at the end of January to discuss omission of Soviet performances in future scheduling. If this is agreed upon by the council, the students will re- frain from demonstrating at Reachler's office; but the chapter said it will demonstrate on the 4th against the orchestra.
