the armory with exhibits contain-
ing more than 500 boats of all
types, shizes and prices as well as
the latest lines of other water
sports equipment and accessories.
Activities include the auction
each evening at 7:30 of $5,000 in

BEN GORNEY bad a 'double
celebration recently when he cele-
brated his 79th birthday and 56th
wedding anniversary on the same
day . . . Ben met Rose Lieber
in 1913 while both worked to-
gether at Crowley-Milners down-
town . . . Ben was manager of
the ladies wearing apparel dept.
and Rose a saleslady . . . He still
calls her "My Belle of the Ball"
and fondly tells of waiting three
years until he could afford to get
married ... As for being 79 years
old, Ben looks in his 50s . . . at-
tributing his good health to diet
watching and five minutes of ex-
ercise -each day . . . He swims
at least an hour twice a week,
usually at the Jewish Center . . .
PET PROJECT of Marvin Fran-
kel, municipal judge of Oak Park,
Volunteer Probation Officers had
its in-service training institute last
Sunday when guest speakers ad-
dressing a very enthusiastic audi-
ence . . . Mary started his "idea"
three months after taking office
in October, 1968 . . and now has
about .50 volunteer probation of-
ficers in O.P.
CHARLES CANVASSER, new
president of the Detroit Business-
men's Group, City of Hope, has
big shoes to fill . . .. those of
Harry Brodsky, outgoing three-
term -head, who takes over as
