Local Women's Golden Rule Aid Society
Closes Up Shop After 36 Years of Service

After 36 years of actively help-
ing their brethren here and in
Israel, the Women's Golden Rule
Aid Society has closed its books.
Once boasting a membership of
80-90 members, the Yiddish-speak-
ing society has dwindler to a mere
handful, but its last act was, as
always, an act of charity: a con-
tribution of $150 to the Pioneer
Women Child Rescue Fund.
Anna Berg, 73, who has been
president for 30 of the group's 36
years, said most of the surviving
members are in their 70s and 80s.
They can no longer attend meet-
ings or bold the luncheons and
rummage sales whose proceeds
once filled the treasury.
Besides, the group's one driver,
Pauline Apple, was involved in an
auto mishap last year, and there
was no longer any possibility of
gathering items for sale at the
twice-yearly rummage sales.
