YOUR GUIDE T

Mile, Thursday through Sunday ...
Shakey's is owned by brothers Lou
and Ernie Grant.
SIG EXPERIENCE HAPPENED
to our companion at Vargb's on
W. McNichols In Livonia • .. Was
the first time she had ever eaten
escargots . • . and also made the
real big plunge by eating soft shell

crabs • .. with legs and all on the

(facilities available for private parties,
sweet sixteens, showers, meetings, etc.!

platter . . . She never thought it
would happen, and still can't get
wer it . . . proving a point that
there is no such word as "never"

CHUM, SA1111

. . . We both had it house spe-
cialty salad, and it was excellent.
ED VOYTAS, one of Detroit's
very best, has been a bartender
33 years and had only two jobs!
. . . 25 years at the Brass Rail

downtown and eight years at the
Apartment Lounge on W. Mc-
Nichols, where he plies his trade
with supremacy . .
BOBBY LAUREL always did
call The Apartment his "home
away from home" . .. and that's
where he returns Feb. 1 . .
BObby's last stint there was for
21/2 years.
ONE OF THE FORMER owners
came into Buddy's Pizzeria, E. Mc-
Nichols, and said the pizza was
better than when he had the place!
. . . Owners Allan Rotman and
Billy Jacobs took over two years
ago come June ... Harry Milgrom
is manager.
NEW HOSTS at Pine Knob Ski
Resort (lounge, cafeteria and rath-
skeller bar) are Alex Bardi, of
Bardi's Chop House, and Danny
Jacobs of Cedars, downtown . .
Pine Knob is on 1-75 and Sashebaw
Rd., Pontiac . . . with dancing to
the Lorio's four-piece group.

SIDECAR
1/2 brandy, Li
Cointreau and Li lemon juice
. . . Shake well with ice and
strain Into glass.
LOOK FOR Mel Ball and his

quartet on the Mike Douglas show
in a couple of weeks.
PET PEEVE . . . waitresses
who don't ask, and refill our cup
with more coffee "to warm it up"
after we finally get the java just
right with the proper amount of
cream and sugar .. . We enjoy a
second cup of coffee .. . but only
after finishing the first!
HERB REED and his world-
famed Platters are at The Moon
in Hazel Park . . . Backed by a
fine aggregation, headed up by

Ronnie Phillips, the Platters lend
their talents to songs of the day,
as well as some of the more mel-
low "oldies" of bygone days . . .
But their piece de resistance is the
series of great numbers that made
the Platters the talk of the country
and the world,
ROBERTA BLAIR still sings 'em
with a flair at Saksey's piano bar
on W. Seven Mile and Woodward...
Spot owned by Sam Gilbert and
Iry Sacks is among the most
underrated in town when it comes
to the good dining.
CARL MILLER, ex-Detroiter
now a show biz agent with a long
list of familiar sounding clients,
reminds us via the mails about
the time he took comedian Buddy
Hackett and ourselves to a Japa-
nese restaurant in New York for
sukiyaki . . . We all followed the
custom of removing our shoes
when we entered and sat on the
floor with everybody else ... After
Buddy's first mouthful, he wanted
out, and commented, "Now I'm
hip to the bit about taking your
shoes off. This food is so lousy
they're afraid you'll kick 'em!"
