Max Haidy, 65
Services for Max Haidy, a char-
ter member of Adas Shalom Syna-
gogue, were held last Friday at
Kaufman Chapel.
Mr. Haidy, 65, was a salesman
for Brown and Bigelow, an adver-
tising company, for 28 years. He
was a past president of the Boule-
vard and Crescent Shrine clubs,
a life member of Perfection Lodge
of the Masons and a member of
Tikva Lodge, Bnai Brith, Moslem
Temple and Furniture Club of De-
troit. He was born in Russia.
During World War Haidy
cooperated with the Jewish News
in the distribution of thousands
of playing cards among service-
men overseas.
Surviving are his wife, Faye; a
son, Robert; a daughter, Marcia;
and a brother, William.

Retired Detroit Teacher
Bertha F. Zeff, a retired teacher,
died Dec. 30. She was 70.
Mrs. Zeff, 18500 N. Park Dr.,
Southfield, was born in Poland.
She taught in the Detroit school
system until her retirement. She
was a member of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek and a past board member
of the sisterhood, member of Had-
assah and National Council of Jew-
ish Women and a past board spon-
sor of Shaare Zedek Hospital in
Jerusalem.
She leaves a son, A. Robert
Zeff; a daughter, Mrs. Morton
(Nita Billie) Barak; a sister, Mrs.
R. B. (Nettie) Newman; and one
grandchild.

of Yiddish Journalist
News of the death of Rosa Wein-
berg in New York—reported in
last week's Jewish News—brought
to memory the important role her
late husband, Samuel, played in
Detroit Yiddish circles.
Mr. Weinberg, who died in 1943,
was editor for 20 years of the
Detroit edition of the Jewish Daily
Forward. He authored the first
Yiddish book to be produced in
this city: "Jewish Social Services
in Detroit, published by the Jew-
ish Welfare Federation.
Surviving Mrs. Weinberg, whg,k
was 83, are a son, Theodore; two
grandchildren and two great-grand-
children. She had lived in New
York for the past 25 years.
