Rabbi Goren said in Tel Aviv
that in his opinion a cabinet minis-
ter could not be called to account
for his actions. Since cabinet min-
isters have collective responsibil-
ity, summoning one minister is
tantamount to calling the entire
cabinet to account.

New Yiddish Daily Launched in N.Y.

-

NEW YORK (JTA)—The day
after the closing of the Day-Jew-
ish. Journal, leaving only the For-
ward as the nation's major daily
Yiddish newspaper, a new Yid-
dish daily was launched here Dec.
20 under the name Yiddische
Zeitung. Its publisher is Sender
Deutsch, a 50-year-old native of
Czechoslovakia who has published
Der Yid for 19 years and Der Yid-
discher Kval (Jewish Fountain)
for five years. Each has a circula-
tion of 6-7,000.
Deutsch distributed 11,500 copies
of Yiddische Zeitung in four of
the five boroughs (all but Staten
Island, which may be added later).
He said it was too early to deter-
mine how many had been sold. He
edits and offsets all three papers
at Deutsch Printing and Publish-
ing Co., a Brooklyn firm of which
he is president.
Deutsch, a New Yorker for 23
years, told the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency he expected the Yiddische
Zeitung to cost him $250,000 the
first year and hopefully less there-
after. He said the 15-cent four-

pager would seek to attract both
the older and the younger genera.
tions of Orthodox New Yorkers.
It will, Deutsch said, cover "all
news," with emphasis on Jewish
news, and will appear daily except
Saturdays and Jewish holidays.
Subscription rates were not yet
formulated. He described Der Yid
as a- "religious political biweekly"
with a "strong" position on Zion-
ism, and Der Yiddischer Kval as
an "education and family" journal.
(Paid subscribers of the defunct
Tog-Morgen Journal this week be-
gan to receive, without advance
notice, the Jewish Daily Forward).
