DOWNTOWN YPSILANTI, MICH.
Across from Ypsilanti Savings Bank
ONLY HAS FOUR booths
and
seating capacity of 29, but Sammy's
Delicatessen on W. Nine Mile
Rd., about a half block west of
Woodward, is a pleasant find .. .
Owner Sam Sandler is an ex-poul-
try man and steel salesman who
had never been in the deli busi-
ness before last July when he
opened his Ferndale spot . . . Sam
works behind the counter him-
self, making sure that the food
and sandwiches are good enough
for himself before being served
to the customers . . It's just a
little place in the middle of a long
block, but Sammy's Delicatessen
is well worth visiting.
A CLOSED PRESS PARTY
hailed the premier record of the
very talented and versatile Bob
Anderson, appearing at the Winery
on Park . . . The label is a new
one . . . after owner Dan Rappa- ,
port . . . who seems to have a
winner in Bob.

MEL BALL QUARTET at the

Locke, has taken on "a new look"
. . . After 41/2 years at the London
Chop House, playing for 'dining ,
and dancing, Mel and the quartet
are now strictly an act . . . in a
complete reversal that is bringing
out the very fine abilities of this
popular musical group . . . The
ability to alter style in accordance
with a trend or locale is often too
hard for the mediocre, but Mel and
his combo is far from mediocre -
they're real good musicians whose
sole job is entertaining people.
