Sen. Cooper Aids Girl Racqueteer' Winter Activities at Jewish Center A Berkley High School girl is raising a racquet for women' rights. Denise Thal, sixteen-year-old daughter of the Bruce Thais of Victoria Rd., Huntington Woods, is rated the No. 2 tennis player for girls 16 and under in south- eastern Michigan. She feels so strongly that she is able to play and beat the boys on the Berkley tennis team that she has asked State Senator Daniel S. Cooper to go to bat for her. Cooper, last week, introduced a bill in the Senate which would permit female pupils to partici- pate in all noncontact interschol- astic athletic activities including such sports as swimming, golf, track and field and tennis Denise got the initiative to write Cooper after reading of a case in New York state where the state regents ruled that girls could com- pete with boys in noncontact sports. Denise went out for the Berkley team last year but "the coach just let me sit there." She ad- mitted, however, that she would have had a tough time beating some of the boys. Although Lane Ramsdell, Berk- ley High School's athletic director, was dubious about the whole thing —"What does the coach do with the girl in the locker room"—her mother is proud of her. Denise is a member of the girls' high school ski team. -4.-- - DE WNW WNW NEVIS lisisedmir. 17,1171 Beth Moses Youth to Bring Joy to Elderly' Beth -Moses United Synagogue Youth will bring Hanuka cheer to the residents of Edgewater Conva- lescent Home Sunday.
