"I'm not one to challenge such
expertise. But we Jews are tra-
ditionalists. And because this is
the first night of the festival of
Hanuka, Mr. Cisler, I might sug-
gest that if you substitute potato
for buckwheat, eliminate the milk
and add a pinch of matzo meal,
you could have catered tonight's
banquet with the damndest batch
of potato latkes anyone ever
tasted."
Linking Cisler's role in the quest
for peace and the needs of young
people, Blumberg stated:
SATURDAY. DEC. 18
Why Wait for
After Christmas Sales?
The Time Is Now!
"There is a talmudic admoni-
tion which advises that our re-
sponsibility is not really to pre-
pare the path for our youth—but
to prepare our youth for the
path.
"Which is another way of say-
ing that our generation needs to
find peace for itself if we are to
be a worthy guide for the genera-
tion in our trust.
"The distinguished American we
honor this evening is a man at
peace with himself—and with the
society he serves so well.
"In his active concerns for our
physical environment and our hu-
man environment, he is faithful in
his confidence that man has the
capacity to extricate himself from
the worst perils of al I — those
created by man's own follies.
"And his is a leadership with a
sense of multiplication—a capacity
to spread, itself and to inspire
others.
It is for these qualities, re-
flected in a lifetime of substantive
achievements, that I am honored
to present the Bnai Brith Great
American Award to Mr. Walker
Cisler."

ADL Aids Major Firms
in Recruiting Students
Six major employers in the Chi-
cago area have scheduled a series
of nationwide recruitment pro-
grams for college graduates and
have asked the Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith to aid them
in "encouraging interested and
qualified Jewish" applicants. Five
Michigan campuses are included.
The firms are the First National
Bank of Chicago, Oscar Mayer and
Company, Swift and Company, The
Northern Trust Co. of Chicago,
Marshall Field and Co. and Com-
monwealth Edison Co. The League,
through its regional offices, is mak-
ing specific dates for interviews
available to campus HIllel direc-
tors members and college place-
ment centers.
The firms are seeking candi-
dates for executive trainee pro-
grams as well as in specialized
fields.
The five Michigan schools are
the University of Michigan, Michi-
gan State University, Eastern
Michigan University, Western
Michigan University and Michigan
Tech.
