NOTHING LIKE A good cup of
coffee . . . and few places can
boast of one .. . Over at Dunkin'
Donuts on Greenfield and 10 Mile,
they have 52 varieties of donuts,
but the unsung cup of coffee wears
the crown of prominence . .. so
much in fact, that folks taking
over a Dunkin' Donut shop must
take a course from the home of-
fice in the , proper preparation and
maintenance of coffee!, . . Dick
Mudge has the Dunkin' Donut
shop on Greenfield and 10, and
can talk for hours (when he's not
back there baking) about the many
kinds of donuts that don't have
as much calories as people think
. . . "Mostly air," says Dick . .
By the way, that high grade of cof-
fee bean used by Dunkin' Donuts
has a lot to do with the good cof-
fee there too!

"THE EKG TAKE looked like
the depression market report,"
writes Al Wykoff, who is out of
New Grace Hospital taking it
easier after "the ticker went
bad."
GOOD GUY JIMMY LAUNCE,
WJR disc jockey, was auctioneer
at last week's "Auction Potpourri"
by Glenwood Chapter, Women's
American Ort . . . with such
items as Jack B e n n y's ties,
Spiro Agnew's pens and Hubert
Humphrey's presidential medal-
lions .. . During dinner one eve-
ning, Carol Udman answered the
phone . . . it was Julie Harris, ,"I
just finished knitting a hat for
your auction, and was wondering
if someone could please pick it up
. . . Julie, appearing at the Fisher
in "And Mrs. Rearden Drinks a
Little," had been sent a letter from
the gals while in New York, and
graciously ,returned the call with
her gift, while in Detroit.
MEL BALL AND his quartet are
at the Apartment. Lounge, W. Mc-
Nichols, featuring Kathy Loche,
snaking a lot of music for the many
folks who have followed Mel and
his rhythms around town. . . . He
was a popular mainstay at the
London Chop House for a long
time.
MARK FISCHER and Sammy
Mandell had a reunion after 20
years recently at Edgewood Golf
and Country Club . . . They were
together at the old Ted Lipsitz
Supper Club and Las Vegas . .
and after not touching their in-
struments for awhile, Sammy on
the sax and Mark on drums .gave
out with reminiscing melodies .. .
Sam has been a steel tycoon for
16 years and Mark has been, for
20 years, famous for his antique
gallery, moved from W. McNichols
to Northwestern Hwy. . .. While
playing together, Mark was always
good for a magic trick or two .. .
and he hasn't changed.
NEVER KNOW WHO YOU'LL
bump into at The Winery. on Cass
downtown . . . Folks from every
walk of life . . . bank presidents
talking finances over a cocktail
or pizza . . . or the Wayne
U. student with three candles
lighting his table so he can write
his thesis . . . Bob Anderson on
the very versatile song styling and
Billy Stevenson's very fine trio will
continue on through the year.
MAX AND BELLE Horenstein
go back a long time in the delica-
tessen business, which 'is why
Max's Deli in Country Corners, 13
and Southfield, ranks among the
best.
NEW YEAR'S EVE parties will
be at a minimum this year because
of the fantastic deals to be offered
by local niteries.
CALL IT WHAT you want .

Brown 1 lb. stew beet (or chuck
roast) and one onion in oil .. .
Add spaghetti sauce . . Bring
to a boil . . . Simmer one hour
. . . Add four quartered pota-
toes, three carrots and a can of
peas . . . Cook for one hour.
LEE SCOTT PLAYS piano 'rues.,

Wed. and Thurs. and dancing is
to the Fred Walters Trio at Mas-
ters, bossed by brothers Nick and
Bob on W. Seven Mile and Mid-
dlebelt in Livonia.
SURE DETROIT COULD use a
kosher restaurant . . . but how is
it going to survive when so many
of the clamoring advocates, in-
cluding rabbis, give only a lot of
lip service.
A. J. MARSHALL Co. made the
kitchen almost twice as large at
the newly reopened Lelli's on
Woodward.
TAKE A TIP AND leave a tip
when dining out , . • Don't be like
the guy who was surprised that
the waitress didn't recognize Him
and asked why . . . "You never
leave me anything to remember
you by," she said.
LAST TWO DAYS for rotund
comic Bob G. Anthony at 24 Karat
on Telegraph . Bob does ethnic
comedy without being offensive
. . . also sings in Italian, Jewish,
German, etc. . . . Harry Harris
continues to do his usual good
job on the nostalgia tunes . . .
but ask Harry to sing some of to-
day's goodies • . . he does a fine
job on them . . . Frankie Rapp
opens week of 27th and stays over
New Year's Eve.
TONY, LINDA and The Tartans
are appearing for three weeks at
The Moon in Hazel Park . . . First
two weeks in Jan. will have Judy
Bryte, protege of Kay Stevens, and
then in comes Herb Reed and The
Platters for two weeks.
