Lindsay Extends Hanuka Greetings; Praises Israel NEW YORK (JTA)—Wi shing New Yorkers "a most happy and healthy Hanuka," Mayor John V. Lindsay issued a statement com- paring the plight of Jews in the Soviet Union and in Arab lands to oppression inflicted upon Jews during the time of the Maccabees. On January 1972, the 75th Anniver- sary celebration of the World Zionist Movement will begin with the meeting of the 28th World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem. A total of 650 delegates and observers from 44 countries will attend, representing the Zionist Move- ment and Jewish communities through- out the free world. From the United States, there will be 152 delegates. 725,000 registered Zionists in the United States will receive their ballot in the mail. BY YOUR VOTE, you • • • THE WORLD ZIONIST ORGANIZATION Theodore Herzl, the founder of the World Zionist Organization, convened the First Zionist Congress in Basle, Switzerland, in 1897. The Basle Pro- gram was then adopted, with the goal of "the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Pales- tine, secured by public law". In 1968, the 27th Zionist Congress adopted the Jerusalem Program, to which all Zionists adhere.
