JERUSALEM — The parents of
Israel's first quintuplets have
found themselves holding the bag
—and diapers—in waiting for food,
clothing and money promised them.
Yitzhak and Hadassah Berman
of Jerusalem were promised when
their children were born, that they
would receive baby clothes, food,
housing and money to aid them in
rearing their family.
"What has become of the prom-
ises?" the 25-year-old husband, a
flag maker, asked.
Berman, who makes $190 a
month, said the finance minister
promised him $3,500 for a new
home to replace his unheated
dwelling. Other agencies promised
him $1,200 in grants, a milk com-
pany pledged a year's supply of
milk and a woman's charity of
fered a live-in nurse.
So far, nothing has materialized,
and the surviving .three girls and
one boy will be out of their incu-
bators and home in a month.
