that gave the world "The Motown
Sound" with a new sound on a new
label . . . His first record on in-
dustrialist Danny Rappaport's new
Rapp-City, label is due for a mid-
December release . . . And it's
being touted as a winner already.
Telegraph Rd's. most glitter-
ing night-spot, The 24 Karat Club,
has lined up a fine array of talent
for the winter season, according
to Joe Rahal . . Comic Bill Hart,
while doing exceedingly well with
the rapid-fire joke, also is superb
with his wooden-headed pal Harry
during his ventriloquist routine, but
he is at his best with his classic
pitchman act . . . Hart's feminine
companion on the current bill,
lovely Leslie Kendall is particular-
ly effective with uptempo ballads
In addition to serving up some
of the finest food on "the strip,"
Rahal also is beefing up (no pun
intended) his luncheon trade .. .
and expects to add interest to the
excellent luncheon cuisine with a
matinee and also a fashion show,
complete with professional models.
A night spot featuring a member
of the Jimmy Clark Band on WJR's
Morning Open House Show, is the
Royal Ascot Lounge in Lincoln
Park . The Royal Ascot's trum-
peter, Eddie Webb, is ill in Royal
Oak's Beaumont Hospital. His
friends and fans can help him get
well with a nice card or a letter
addressed to Beaumont.

Guest Columnist
I had the red carpet unrolled
for me during the premiere open-
ing of the all-new Bimbo's on
Woodward between Six and Seven
Mile . . . This festivity brought
me into contact with one of the
nicest and most professional guys
I ever hope to meet . . . I'm sure
you'll agree when you enter this
world composed of a mellow blend-
ing of the Gay '90s and the Roar-
ing '20s and are greeted by owner
Morry Silber . Morry and broth-
er, Joel, recently added this to
their growing Bimbo brigade . .
One glance at the cheerful red
stripes and bow ties of the waitres-
ses and cooks and you'll know that
you are in the right place for both
good times and good edibles .. .
because it is certainly most pleas-
ant to sit beneath the warm glow
of Tiffany lamps and the benign
smile of a framed portrait of Stan
Laurel and "dig" superb pastas
and pizzas along with the feverish
beat of Juarez . . . This rocking
trio, made up of Mike Smith and
the Mrs. and Ron Cobb, deal in
Webb, Bacharach and much more
than a baker's-dozen of "ever-
greens."
The Upstarts, appearing in The
Moon Supper Club's Lunar Lounge,
on Chrysler Service Drive, are
definitely one of the three most
entertaining groups to appear at
The Moon . . . Not only does the
sextet double on at least 34 in-
struments, but they sing with great
verve. Their musical visit to the
great rock stars of the early '50's
is sheer nostalglaville .. But, as
exceptional as The Upstarts are
proving themselves to be, the new
Moon-Man (Manager Walt Ingram)
seems certain to be the one to add
additional lustre to The Moon. He
already has instituted a new menu
that should appeal to all members
of the fork-and-knife club and just
plain lovers of good food. His new
salad table is already winning
* enthusiastic response from Moon-
goers.
Another night spot devoting
much time and thought to the pro-
ducUon of a menu of delightful
'variety is The Winery, on Park in
downtown Detroit. Ken Badalament
and his wife, Joyce, together with
that food-hip manager of theirs,
t'at Grezyk, are planning to meet
Old Man Winter head-on with a
line-up of beverages that kept our
Colonial ancestors in "good spirits"
throughout, their days of building
a nation out of a rough-and-ready
wilderness . . Also keeping
