WALTHAM, Mass.—A Brandeis
University professor has designed
and, successfully built a "dunk-
ing electronic monster" that soon
may simplify the complexities of
learning about- computer program-
ing- .
The device=known as a Turing
madiine—is the -.work of Di. Ira
Gilbert, an assistant professor of
astrophysics now on- leave of ab-
sence from the university. He was
aided in his research by another
Brandeis _ professor, Dr. Jacques
Cohen of the physics department.
Relieved_ to be the only- such
device in ,the= world, the machine
will `soon undergo testing in class-
room conditions, hopefully, in a lo-
'high school envirmunent.
