Test Found to Detect
Intestinal Cancer

474-0096

Dr. Amoz I. Chernoff, director
of research at the University of
Tennessee Memorial Research
Center and Hospital, has an-
nounced that a rapid and inex-
pensive method of early detection
of intestinal tract cancer is being
developed at the center.
The clinical application of the
test "could be as significant in
detecting cancer of the bowel as
the Pap smear is in revealing
cancer of the uterine cervix," Dr.
Chernoff said.
The test is based on the finding
of a Canadian cancer researcher,
Dr. Phillip Gold, but is said to be
faster and less expensive than the
Gold method.
Dr. Chernoff said the test could
be run routinely in a doctor's
office on a blood sample.
