- -Arab Fantasy That CondOnes-Bruttifitiitilated in the Raid'

There are recollections of occur-
rences in - Israel and in Egypt in
a new novel by Victor Kolpacoff.
In "The Raid," published by
Atheneum, Kolpacoff primarily
describes the formation of a ter-
rorist El Fatah plan to undermine
a bridge in Israel.
The major achievement of the
group is the mass murder of school
children when members of this
raiding group throw a bomb at a
school bus.
Such an incident occurred last
year on the Lebanese border, and
the countercharge, also repeated
in Kolpacoff's novel, was that
Israel had bombed a school in
Cairo.
The major value of the Kolpa-
coff novel is the author's under-

standing of the attitude and men-
tality of the Arab. The fantasies
emerge here in full force. Most of
"The Raid" is devoted to a descrip-
tion of the plan for the 15-mile trek
into Israel to cause the planned

damage. Then came the calami- 'Llais4etzeralizes-ii -biCtoo much-

tous result.

The publishers boost the novel's
Arab side in the Kolpacoff
worth by stating that "Kolpacoff story- and thefakure to recognize
