Credit for the stamp goes to Sam Hirsch of San Francisco, the son of a rabbi, who had been moved by the quotation to sug- gest that it be incorporated in a stamp design pertinent to ecology. Stamp Collectors Society, brought the idea to the society's attention. The Society commis- sioned Yehuda Tarmu, a well known Israeli artist residing in Los Angeles, to create a paint- ing which could be used as a stamp design, based on the biblical quotation. The finished work depicts three dancing children of different races, dressed in white flowing gowns and holding a garland of flowers. A rainbow brightens the sky with the biblical quotation spanning its arch. Lettered in a corner are the worlds Ecology U.S.A. It was decided to reproduce this portrait on an envelope with re- productions of the four ecology stamps issued by the United States. The unique cover was intro- duced in limited number at Stamp Expo '71 (South), in Anaheim. Calif., in March. For his contribu- tion to philately, Hirsch was hon- ored with a special award of ap- preciation by the International Stamp Collectors Society. House Resolution Honors Sternberg, MESC Referee In recognition of his more than 30 years' service as appeals ref- eree with the Michigan Employ- ment Security Commission, Samuel Sternberg was honored by the State House of Representatives this week. Sternberg, who lives on Strat- ford Ct., Southfield, was cited in a House resolution, presented by State Rep. Joseph Forbes in the office of Southfield Mayor Nor- man Feder Monday afternoon. After his retirement exactly two years ago,. Sternberg was recalled to serve in June 1970, and he spent an additional nine months with the MESC, through March 31.
