MEMORIAL AWARD COMMITTEE

Consists of the presidents of Federation member agencies, De-
troit Service Group, Women's Division and the previous Award
recipients. The committee meets annually to select an honoree
for the Fred M. Butzel Memorial Award, pursuant to the follow-
ing criteria: length of service to Jewish community; service to
total Jewish community and its constituent parts; service in the
general community as a representative of the Jewish community,
character and integrity in communal affairs.

UNITED JEWISH CHARITIES of DETROIT

The United Jewish Charities, founded in 1899, was one of the
earliest associations in the United States to coordinate fund-raising and
budgeting for the Jewish philanthropies of a city. It was the predeces-
sor and one of the founders of Federation and has remained its senior
member, with particular responsibility for communal properties and
