As a new student in Akiva's
high school, I find myself anti-
cipating the coming year. -
In our Hebrew studies, a major
emphasis is put upon the teaching
of Torah. Every day for an hour or
so, we study B'rashit and its com-
mentaries. Mishna and commen-
taries also are studied in depth.
Other Hebrew subjects are Hebrew
literature, including grammar, and
the study of Jeremiah. All subjects
are taught strictly in Hebrew.
In general studies, we study
the complexities of world history
and delve deeply into world _
literature. Biology, geometry and
French complete our high school
Program-
Not only are our minds exercised
but our bodies as well, for- Akiva

period each day. --
We have an unusually long day
here. Children from 7th grade and
up _ attend classes until 5:30. How-
ever, we need all of this time .to
absorb: this intensive prograin.
We have achieved 'success so-
cially, too. - The kids expect to do
many _things in the future for the
- benefit -Of our school. When we
graduate -from Akiva - we expect
to be well-versed in Jewish studies,
knowledgeable in general studies,
with pride and dedication to the
.ideals of -Judaism and democracy:
