High Holy Day Israel Bondpliea
Slated in 26 Detioit Congregations

Twenty-six Detroit area congre:
gations are participating in Israel
Bond High Holy Day appeals or
in related congregational activi-
ties, it was announced by Phillip
S to llm a n, congregational and
High Holy Day chairman. The
appeals will be made 'on Rosh
Hashana, Kol Nidre and at Yizkor
on Yom Kippur.
Adas Shalom is the top congre-
gation in the country in High Holy
Day Israel Bond results. Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal will make his 14th
consecutive Israel -Bond Appeal
'on Kol Nidre and at Yizkor on
Yom Kippur.
Three nationally known figures
who will speak at the High Holy
Day Israel Bond Appeals are Ira
Feinberg. the first American vol-
unteer to join Palmach, commando
unit of liagana, in the Israel War
of Independence; Henry Levy, who
aided in the rescue. and rehabili-
tation of tens of thousands of
survivors of the Nazi Holocaust,
after World War II; and Dr. Arieh
L. Plotkin. former officer in the
intelligence corps of the Israel

Holy Land through economic de-
velopment is of inestimable im-
portance as we stand surrounded-
by merciless enemies. At the same
time. our gates and hearts -have
opened wide to receive our dear

brethren who are struggling to
free themselves from the Arab
countries - as well as from the
Soviet Union. The providing of
employment and the building of
dwellings with the aid of Israel
Bond investments are an impor-
tant contribution to this holy and
historic ingathering to Zion."
. Chief Rabbi Nissim declared:
"The Israel Bond Organization,
which provides the- means to de-
velop and strengthen the economy
of the state of Israel, is an im-
portant instrument in. carrying out
the design of Divine Providence."
MERRILL L. HASSENFELD,
president of Hasbro Industries, Inc.
in Pawtucket, R.I., has been named
a member of the board 'of direc-
tors of the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency, it was announced by Rob-
ert H. Arnow, JTA .president. Act-
ive for •many years in public life,
Hassenfeld is a board member
of the Council of Jewish Welfare
Funds and executive committee
member of the United Jewish Ap-
peal.
