Rosh Hashana Message

From ALFRED E. KLEIN, PRESIDENT
Traditionally, Rosh Hashana is a time to recount our past deeds,
and to look forward to the future with determination and new hope.
As this new year begins, let us apply this tradition to the plight of
our brothers throughout the world.
The aid and comfort we brought to over 300,000 Jews in need
and distress overseas, offer a measure of gratification. These needy
Jews are very much in our thoughts as we look forward to the year
ahead and pray for the betterment of mankind everywhere.
The people of Israel are caught in the midst of a tenuous situa-
tion. At the moment, there is neither war, nor peace. Although the
guns are silent, the threat remains. Israel's people must be sustained
and strengthened in the severe trials to which they are subjected.
Her goal—and ours—is not alone her continued existence.
It is the fulfillment of the true promise of the Promised Land—
that her people may live in peace and security, in a nation that serves
as a beacon light to the world of a moral and just society.
Together as one people each playing his part—each contributing
in his own way—together we can bring the day of peace a little closer.
