A group calling itself the "He-
brew Action League" has been
formed in the Detroit area, under
chairmanship of Jack Gunsaulus.
Gunsaulus, of Oak Park, said the
name of the group (Hebrew) was
chosen to differentiate from the
word Jewish, which he feels has
a connotation of subservience
among both Gentiles and Jews.
As for action, Gunsaulus said
the group's first project is to call
upon the Oak Park School Board
for the institution of Jewish studies
in Oak Park High School. He
added that the group's goals in-
clude Jewish education influencing
the Jewish community to "reorder
priorities" and physical training to
counter anti-Semitism, which he
sees everywhere, on all levels.
He said the HAL philosophy,
based on Jabotinsky's ideas,
is akin to that of the Jewish De-
fense League, but added that his
group "can't take the same kind
of action because Detroit isn't like
New York."
